This is such a simple way to make sweet potatoes that everyone loves. These are tender but not mushy, sweet but not overwhelming and with the right combination of spices, even picky eaters would devour these!

A few notes to make the best roasted sweet potato slices
- Choose sweet potatoes that are firm and don’t have wrinkles.
- Opt for small to medium sized sweet potatoes since they’re easier to peel and slice.
- Slice the potatoes and evenly as possible to ensure even cooking.
- Use enough fat such as olive oil to coat each and every slice.
- If you want to jazz things up a little, drizzle the sweet potatoes with some honey after roasting and right before serving.
How to roast sweet potato slices
- Preheat the oven to 400°F and coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.
- Wash and dry the sweet potatoes. Peel and cut them into 1/4 to 1/2 inch thick slices.
- Place the sweet potato slices in a bowl and drizzle with olive oil and your desired seasoning.
- Arrange on the baking sheet and make sure the slices are not overlapping.
- Roast in the oven for 30 minutes. Flip halfway through so they cook evenly.
Seasoning sweet potatoes
There are many options for sweet potato seasoning. Here are a few of my favorites. You can use as much or as little of each spice depending on your preference:
- Cumin, salt, pepper and paprika
- Coriander, cinnamon, cumin, salt
- Turmeric, salt and pepper
- Garlic powder, dried rosemary, salt and pepper
Serving suggestions
You can serve roasted sweeet potatoes with many main dishes such as roasted chicken, steak, barbecue chicken or pork loin. It would also make an easy and light side dish for holiday dishes such as roasted turkey or roast beef.


Spiced Roasted Sweet Potato Slices
Ingredients
- 4 medium sweet potatoes
- 2 tbsp olive oil
- 1/2 tsp salt
- 1/2 tsp black pepper
- 1/2 tsp cumin
- 1/2 tsp paprika
Instructions
- Preheat the oven to 400°F. Coat a baking sheet with cooking spray.
- Wash and peel the sweet potatoes. Pat dry them completely.
- Cut the sweet potatoes into ¼ to ½ inch thick slices. Place them in a bowl and top with olive oil, salt, pepper, cumin and paprika.
- Arrange the slices on the baking sheet and make sure they're not overlapping.
- Roast in the oven for 30 minutes. Flip the slices halfway through.
Notes
- For some extra flavor, drizzle the sweet potato slices with honey right before serving.
- It’s important that the sweet potato slices are cut into the same thickness to ensure even cooking.
- Flipping the sweet potato slices halfway through will result in even cooking and roasting marks on both sides.
